LAYERED COLLECTION
Joaquin Salim
Description
La Niña repositions fragments of typography and archival print around the image of a ship, recalling one of the caravels that carried Cristóbal Colón to the Americas. The work resonates with cultural memory, evoking the layered histories of conquest, migration, and identity that continue to shape Latin America. By collaging remnants of text and image, Salim transforms this symbol of passage into a meditation on how stories of origin are constructed, fragmented, and retold.
